CKS Alumnus Rance Derrick Neri Pavon Bags Second Place in 2026 NAST Talent Search for Young Scientists

Rance Derrick Neri Pavon, a 2013 high school graduate of Chiang Kai Shek College, was awarded second place in the 2026 Talent Search for Young Scientists by the National Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) of the Philippines. The prestigious award was presented during a formal ceremony at the Manila Hotel on July 9, 2026.

NAST is the country’s highest and most authoritative scientific advisory body. The Talent Search for Young Scientists recognizes outstanding researchers under the age of 35 who hold at least a master’s degree and have published in internationally indexed (ISI/Scopus) peer-reviewed journals. The selection process is highly competitive: finalists first undergo rigorous screening before presenting and defending their work in a public final round held last April 22, 2026, at the Admiral Hotel in Manila.

Even during his high school years at Chiang Kai Shek College, Pavon already showed strong academic promise. After graduation, he pursued advanced studies in microbiology and topped the Philippine Microbiology Certification Exam—an early milestone that strengthened the foundation of his research career.

His award-winning work centers on the development and application of Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) technology. The study produced a rapid, low-cost molecular detection method that allows Salmonella in meat products to be identified by the naked eye. The technique offers a practical solution for improving food safety testing, especially in resource-limited settings, and carries clear value for public health monitoring.

This recognition marks an important milestone in Pavon’s academic journey and reflects the diligence and scientific ambition that Chiang Kai Shek College strives to instill in its students. The school takes pride in his achievements and looks forward to his continued contributions to science and public health in the Philippines and beyond.
    Congratulations, Rance!
